Lady Saw

Well probably too late to get out and see her in Oz now, but still thought I would post about this amazing performer. Got along to the show at the Becks Bar, Sounds from Jamdown, on 24 January. The line up was Firehouse (with some guest vocals from Gina Mitchell), Lady Saw, Bunny Ruggs and a dj set by Gaz Mayall. Lady Saw was one of the most engaging performers I have ever seen. She had charmed the audience before the end of her first track and kept everyone thoroughly entertained for the duration. She didn't tone it down either. The performance was witty, wild, personal and endearing. Just amazing how compelling one person and a mic can be. She came across as a powerful and unapologetic woman who made people feel great about themselves. The crowd really got it. If Tanya Stephens is half this good I'll be one very happy punter.

You can find more photos and opinions about Lady Saw over at Ozreggae and some from the Melbourne dates too. There is also an interview with her on Radio National's breakfast show. Her album 'Walk Out' is available in Australia through Hardwax. YouTube below is Marion inna ballady mode.

PS.Know this blog has been a bit sleepy lately, so if you want any track lists or audio for December and January's Lawless Streets check the radio section at Oz Reggae.Com
PPS. Professor is back in town - so will be more of him on air too.
